The jewel in the Woodruff Arts Center's crown is this striking contemporary structure (1983, Richard Meier) covered with white porcelain-enamelled steel panels. Rodin's sculpture The Shade, a gift from the French government, presides over the front lawn. Inside, the permanent collection (approximately 14 000 works) includes a splendid anthology of 18C, 19C and 20C American art, as well as European paintings and a fine collection of African art.
