Description
The Tower of the Winds is a curious octagonal structure, each facet of which brandishes an aerides, a winged deity symbolising the dominant winds of Athens. Note Boreas, portrayed as a bearded man, and the gentle Zephyr, letting flowers fall from his cloak. The tower had a two-fold function as a weather vane and hydraulic clock.
