Useful information

Description

The Cuevas del Pomier were discovered in the mid-19C by a British consul, Sir Robert Schomburgk. The caves, adorned with thousands of pictograms and hundreds of engravings, are the most significant prehistoric site in the Caribbean. They provide an exceptional pictorial legacy, as the oldest drawings date back to before 2,000 BCE and the most recent are from the Taíno era (6CE). Of the area's fifty caves, only five are open to the public.
