Huddled around its picturesque Roman port, now a modern marina, old Antalya looks more like a delightful traditional village than a seaside resort. Once surrounded by ramparts, parts of which are still standing, the town consists of a maze of narrow, flower-decked alleyways lined with gardens and corbelled Ottoman houses dating from the 18C and 19C. Although many of these are now occupied by souvenir shops, the district, dominated by a fluted minaret, has managed to retain some of its original atmosphere.
