Located inside the fortified walls of the castle in Almonaster la Real, the mosque is one of the rare examples of caliphal architecture (dating from the 10C when Andalucia was ruled by the Caliphate in Córdoba) to have survived in the region. Its reddish walls built against the rock seem to have withstood the passage of time with complete serenity. Beside the mosque stands an unusual bullring.
