The museum's collections mainly cover the Greco-Roman period, although finds from archaeological digs in the Delta, El Fayum and the Alexandria region have been added over the years. Founded by Italian archaeologist Giuseppe Botti in 1892, the museum is currently closed for an unspecified period.
