Description
All that remains of the buildings which once graced Içkale, a fortress built in the early 13C, are the ruins of a small domed 6C Byzantine church dedicated to St George, which stands near a large water tank. Of greater interest are the superb crenellated ramparts, which are in excellent condition. From the terrace along the northern wall, admire the panorama of the rooftops of the old town and follow the line of the lower wall, which snakes its way around the town like a stone serpent.
