Useful information

Description

This stylish museum, designed by architect Ando Tadao (2013), is the backdrop designed specifically to house Scenes in Akita, a huge canvas (20.50m long and 3.65m wide) created in 1937 by the artist Foujita. The work, commissioned by the collector Hirano Masakichi, depicts local festivals throughout the year in a uniquely vivid manner. Hirano's collection also includes many other paintings by Foujita as well as those by Western artists, including from the Paris School and his Montparnasse friends.
