Description
A stone's throw from the town's liveliest neighbourhood, the monastery feels like a haven of calm. This 16C construction dates from the Venetian period: behind the pale stone walls are Gothic cloisters and a gorgeous fountain decorated with the Lion of St Mark. According to legend, an icon of the Virgin Mary was discovered at this spot in the 8C. Beneath the church, a crypt is said to be the cave where it was hidden.
