The Norman fortress built of black volcanic rock flouts the sea from its rocky outcrop. Saturnia fort has stood here since the Roman era having being destroyed several times - King Tancred deciding to rebuild it in 1189. Under the Bourbons, it was remodelled as a prison and is now home to the museo civico (minerals and archaeological pieces). Make sure to take advantage of the view from the top of castle over Cyclops' Reefs
