Laguna Verde
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

For safety reasons, tourists are advised to avoid this region. This volcanic lake is reached by a path that winds its way through the vegetation up to the edge of the crater, offering up some gorgeous vantage points on the way. The astonishing Laguna Verde is the largest of the three crater lakes of the Azufral volcano. At an altitude of 3 900m, the "green lake", fed by sulphurous sources, owes the colour of its waters to their sulphur and iron content. On the shore, sulphurous rocks, bubbling waters and fumaroles serve as a reminder that the volcano is not extinct.
