Trou de Fer waterfall
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

The forest of Bébour-Bélouve is home to an unusual footpath (4.5mi/7km, 3hr return, easy) which wends its way past tamarinds and giant ferns, eventually leading to a viewpoint overlooking the Trou de Fer waterfall, an impressive canyon accessible only by abseiling. On the way, hikers pass a tree nicknamed the "queen of tamarinds" by foresters, which, despite being knocked over by a cyclone, is still alive, illustrating its amazing ability to adapt to the island's harsh climate.
