  The Michelin Guide's review
Located on Piłsudski Square, this monument is dedicated to the anonymous victims who died fighting for Poland's independence; it was erected in 1925 under a portico fragment, the only vestige of the old Saxon Palace. It is home to the ashes of an unknown soldier, a defender of Lwów (today Lviv in Ukraine), mixed with earth from the First World War battlefields. The huge, and generally deserted, square is the place for large gatherings, and has a unique array of the most diverse architectural styles.
