The Michelin Guide's review
Built by Robert Dunsmuir (1880), this former stronghold of Victoria's high society once stood amid 11ha/27 acres of gardens. Bristling with pointed gables, turrets and chimney stacks, Craigdarroch Castle boasts a porch large enough to shelter carriages in bad weather and a staircase with a landing where the musicians would sit to play during lavish receptions. The ballroom on the top floor leads to a tower, which commands a fine view of Victoria.
