Fort Frederick

 Civil and military monument
  The Michelin Guide's review
Like all the island's maritime cities, Trincomalee passed in turn into Portuguese, Dutch and British hands. The old fort gate built by the Dutch in 1676 bears the coat of arms of a lion and a horse, with the motto God and my right. The British named it "Frederick", after the Duke of York, in 1803, and made it the Kachcheri (seat of the colonial administration).
