This sprawling complex, which took 17 years to complete, provides a relatively minimalist backdrop to offices, shops, gardens, esplanades, footbridges and cinemas. Thankfully, the sight of Roppongi Hills in the background and the enthralling giant spider, Maman, created by Franco-American sculptor Louise Bourgeois, whose legs entwine Roku-Roku Plaza, add a welcome whimsical dimension.
