Rinno-ji Buddhist temple (17C) is above all remarkable for its garden. It was built to the north of the town of Sendai by order of Date Masamune, Lord of Sendai, who considered that an ordinary castle was not sufficient to defend the town, hence the temple to ward off evil spirts.
