City and village
The Michelin Guide's review
The city centre comprises several districts. The Gaslamp Quarter is the most historic and the most popular with visitors. Long neglected, the East Village has been given a new lease of life thanks to the efforts of the municipality and the installation of numerous artists in the old lofts. A number of Californian chefs have also opened trendy restaurants, making the East Village a fashionable district. North of the station lies Little Italy, a residential area that has become a favourite spot for locals and a must for travellers.
