The Michelin Guide's review
Topped by Cabot Tower (1897), the rocky outcrop of Signal Hill provides splendid views of the city and the surrounding countryside. Traditionally used to warn the town in the case of sightings of enemy ships, later on it alerted merchants to the arrival of their fleets. In summer, students garbed in the 19C uniforms of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment perform a military tattoo with fifes and drums. A visitor centre charts the history of Newfoundland and the development of St John's.
