Opened in 1983, the Market Square Area contains a shopping mall with a central atrium and several levels, a hotel, a convention centre and the New Brunswick Museum. A terrace of late-19C warehouses fronts a pleasant plaza around the Market Slip where the Loyalists landed in 1783. In summertime, outdoor cafes and concerts add a festive vibe to the plaza. On the plaza's south side stands an 1867 clapboard structure, Barbour's General Store.
