Phan Si Pan, the "Roof of Indochina", looms at 3 143m and is now accessible to everyone. The funicular departure station, the first stage in the ascent, is located in the heart of Sapa. Then you hop into the cabin of a cable car for a breathtaking ride. On arrival, allow 20min to climb the 603 steps to the top, unless you take the tourist train. The view from the summit is exceptional.
