The Michelin Guide's review
Stationed just outside the city, Chellah is said to be Morocco's most romantic site: a distinct sense of mystery (as well as plenty of storks!) pervades its walls, ruins and tombs. A long-abandoned Roman city, Chellah was transformed into a royal cemetery by Marinid rulers in the 13C. Discover the superb Roman ruins of Sala Colonia and, inside the necropolis, the tomb of Sultan Abu al-Hassan and that of his wife, the "Dame de Chellah".
