Less visited than other monasteries in Bukovina, Probota is nonetheless also a Unesco world heritage site. All that remains of Moldavia's oldest monastery (1398) are the perimeter walls and the odd vestige. Built in 1530 by Petru Rares, the church retains fine wall paintings inside; note especially the menology, recounting the Lives of the Saints, plus its 15C-17C tombstones.
