OMSI is housed in a 1992 brick and glass building beside the Willamette River on the site of a former power plant. The museum features an outstanding array of interactive exhibits, for example to experience an earthquake, crack the secrets of electronics, understand prenatal development. USS Blueback, a submarine built in 1959 and decommissioned in 1990, is open for guided tours. There is also an Omnimax and a planetarium.
