This incredible canyon is quite a startling find in the countryside north of Lake Superior. Gouged out of the surface of the Canadian Shield during the last Ice Age, the canyon is 100m deep, 150m across and stretches for more than 1.6km in a wooded plateau, skirted by a path at points. The cold, sunless environment at the floor of the canyon can sustain little, but a few arctic plants that cling to the bare rock.
