  The Michelin Guide's review
For safety reasons, tourists are advised to avoid this region. After the earthquake of 1875, the diocese of Pamplona decided to make Santa Clara the new cathedral of the city, a role it has maintained since then. Unadorned and massive, this cathedral dating from 1584 is the most important in the Norte de Santander departmento. Damaged by various earthquakes, it had to be rebuilt several times. The 16C church was initially part of a convent founded by Doña María Velasco de Montalvo, daughter of Ortún Velasco, conquistador and founder of the city.
