  The Michelin Guide's review
On the southern shore of Lake Chuzenji, many villas were built for Westerners between the 1880s and 1930s. The black wooden building, which served as the British Embassy's second home from 1896 to 2008, offers a museum tour giving an overview of the site. It charts the passion for Nikko's landscapes of its first owner Ernest Satow, an influential British diplomat during the Meiji restoration, and of his son, a botanist. On the second floor, you can enjoy high tea, including scones, while contemplating the lake from the panoramic veranda.
