This palace will be a major stop on your visit to old Muharraq. Built around 1800, it was both the Emir's residence and the seat of government. This vast complex is organised around four courtyards that mark the different uses of the residence: the sheikh's flats, the summer lounge, the women's quarters around the largest courtyard in the complex, then the small servants' courtyard, followed by the guest quarters. It's a maze that's a pleasure to wander through, admiring the details of the ornamentation along the way and the view of the city from the terraces.
