 Well worth the diversions

  The Michelin Guide's review
As if hewn out by a giant's axe, a vertiginous, 1 000m-deep fault cleaves into the mountainside, making up the riverbed of the Voidomatis. From the church, Agios Athanasios, a path leads down to the bottom of the gorges (45min) through an incredible mineral landscape that makes you feel tiny. It brings you to the bottom of the village of Vikos (5hr walk), in the far north, then up to the village for an outstanding view of practically the whole gorge and the Timfi Mountains.
