  The Michelin Guide's review
This fertile and picturesque region lies along the section of the Danube between Melk and Krems, and blends a mix of landscapes: terraced vineyards, churches, castles, towns... Charming villages punctuate the river banks, ruined castles stand atop rocky outcrops, and church bell towers with bulbous domes all add up to give the area its unique character. It is renowned for apricot farming (known here as "marillen"). In late summer, they may be purchased at the roadside.
