Porto de Manaus

 Michelin Guide
 Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
  The Michelin Guide's review
As with any seaside town, you need to head to the port to get a proper grasp of Manaus. It has the peculiarity of being a floating port. Built by the British in 1903, its quays adjust to water levels, which can vary by up to 10m between the dry and rainy seasons. Take the time to observe the incessant comings and goings of workers loading and unloading the fishing boats, under the watchful eye of merchants, on the lookout for giant pirarucu, which can weigh up to 200kg.
