In the historic heart of Lorient, the former enclosure of the East Indies Company is home to the Hôtel des Ventes, a trading house designed by Gabriel in 1740 and rebuilt in its original style (temporary exhibitions are held here). On the Le Faouëdic hill, the Discovery Tower (1786) is flanked by the Admiralty windmills (1677). The tower was used as a semaphore and watchtower.
