The Michelin Guide's review
This massif is the longest and highest of the Provençal range, reaching 1,147m at the Signal de la Sainte-Baume. The bare and arid south face rises gently from Cuges lake to the 12km-long ridge line, offering a splendid panorama, particularly from Saint-Pilon (alt. 994 m), one of its highest peaks. A 300m-high vertical cliff gives an unusual look to the north face, where the Ste-Marie-Madeleine cave lies; below, the national forest stretches out near the Plan-d'Aups plateau.
