  The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 718 in the centre of the Kunisaki peninsula, the Futago-ji Buddhist temple of the Tendai School of Buddhism is nestled in the rock of the wooded slopes of Mount Futago (721m/1,781ft). At the foot of the massive moss-covered stone staircase are two ni-oh statues on either side meant to ward off evil spirits. The main building (Gomado), devoted to Fudo-Myo-O, god of law (whose wooden statue is housed inside), comes into view after a 10min climb.
