 Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
  The Michelin Guide's review
Built from 1828 to 1856 by order of the Duke of Wellington, this fort remained intact until the Second World War. It contains a large central parade ground where soldiers attired in 19C uniform perform military drills (from mid-June to mid-August). This sprawling complex houses a visitor centre, barracks, gunpowder magazines and a small museum. An audio-visual display (50min), Tides of History, charts the history of Halifax and its defences. The noon gun is fired on the dot every day.
