The Michelin Guide's review
Built between 1587 and 1595, the building remains associated with the famous astronomer - and brewer - Jan Heweliusz (1611-1687). The headquarters of Soviet forces in 1945, it today houses the Gdańsk Cultural Centre. Upstairs is the large municipal council chamber, worth seeing for its rich decoration: 17C paintings by Adolf Boy and Herman Han, a fine wooden spiral staircase, Delft tiles and an array of 19C decorative features from destroyed houses.
