  The Michelin Guide's review
Displayed in the Kurutzesantu Museum in Durango, the Kurutziaga cross is carved, like a Breton calvary, on both sides (Paradise, Adam and Eve, the 12 Apostles). It was erected in 1442 as an act of atonement following the heresy committed from 1442 onwards by Franciscan friar Alonso de Mella's, whose subversive theories attracted a number of followers in the town. Around 100 of them were condemned for witchcraft and burnt in 1444 on the site where the cross now stands.
