  The Michelin Guide's review
This pass, the highest point of which is at 393m, overlooks the pastoral valley of Eskdale to the west. At the southern end of the pass stand the ruins of Hardknott Fort, an outstanding example of a Roman auxiliary fort built out of stone in the 2C AD.
