Qusayr Amra

 Michelin Guide
 Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
  The Michelin Guide's review
All that remains of Qusayr (or Qasr) Amra is its hammam and noria. But what a hammam! Built for the Umayyad caliph Al-Walid I in the 8C, it retains its painted décor on the walls and ceilings of several rooms, extraordinary and magnificent vestiges of early Islamic art. With compositions depicting men, women and animals, the paintings illustrate various themes from everyday life during the period. Today, the building (a Unesco world heritage site) is a must for all visitors to Jordan.
