The Michelin Guide's review
Intihuatana, literally "hitching post of the sun", is the highest point of the citadel and a sort of astronomical observatory, made up of a perfectly polished stone table in the shape of an altar from which a spur protrudes that serves as a gnomon. The priests observed the shadows cast on the stone to draw up a calendar of agricultural tasks. Below, the eye is drawn to the central square where festivals and ceremonies were held.
