The Michelin Guide's review
Rising from the depths of the ocean in 1957, the incredible landscape of this volcano, still untouched by vegetation, is fascinating for its shifting structures caused by marine erosion, for its materials (ash, slag, bombs) and for the colours of the minerals - ochre, red and black - that stand out against the blue of the ocean and the green of the rest of the island. The panorama from the top of the lighthouse (the only building to have survived) is breathtaking.
