This long, tapering peninsula pointing like a finger towards the East is dear to the hearts of all Cypriots. At its tip is Apostolos Andreas Monastery, the Lourdes of Cyprus, where a miraculous spring passes, treating blindness and paralysis. Crowds flock here on 15 August and 30 November. In this relatively isolated and untamed region, a handful of Greek communities also survive, having chosen to remain in their villages after 1974, such as the town of Rizokarpaso.
