The Michelin Guide's review
This is the northernmost park, closest to the Oregon border. Established in 1929, it was named after explorer Jedediah Strong Smith, who in the 1820s was the first white pioneer to travel inland in Northern California. Here, the atmosphere is wilder and the forests are denser. The park alone is home to and protects 7% of the world's giant sequoia population.
