  The Michelin Guide's review
Forming a semi-circle to the north of Marlborough, the hillsides of Marlborough Downs, where sheep graze peacefully, are crossed by the Ridgeway Path. Formerly used by nomadic Palaeolithic and Mesolithic peoples, this trail hugs the limestone ridge, instead of battling through the vegetation lower down. It has been re-equipped and fitted out with markers (acorns). It runs for nearly 87mi/140km from Overton Hill (near Avebury) to Ivinghoe Beacon, near Tring (Hertfordshire).
