The Michelin Guide's review
Located in a multi-level brownstone in Adams Morgan, this stunning restaurant from the Popal Group is chic and contemporary yet manages to feel cozy and welcoming. Chef Matt Conroy heads the kitchen, delivering an à la carte that is seasonally minded, French-inspired and tightly edited. Most dishes are meant for sharing and nothing is overwrought. While the menu reads a bit like a bistro, the dishes are leveled up, featuring precise technique, vibrant flavor and unexpected twists. Case in point? A small bowl is set with whipped crème fraîche layered with diced steelhead trout, green strawberry, edible flower petals and a veil of grilled strawberry gelee. It's a gorgeous opener that sets the tone for a memorable meal. Creste di Gallo, or rooster crest-shaped pasta, is tossed with ramps, clams and toasted breadcrumbs with Aleppo pepper for a dialed-in dish. To finish, homemade almond ice cream with a rhubarb compote may sound simple but it's bold and distinctive.
