Set in a charming historic half-timbered house in the heart of Messen, Löwen has much to offer on the culinary front. The regionally and seasonally oriented Brasserie serves as an excellent alternative to Löwen Gourmet. The attractively presented dishes boast bold flavours – think "steak au poivre": beef fillet, creamy peppercorn sauce, a vegetable medley, sautéed potatoes and spring onions, or braised veal cheeks with petits pois à la française. These can be ordered à la carte, or as part of a four- or five-course set menu that showcases the kitchen's ambition. At lunchtime, there is also a good-value selection of daily specials. The wine list features around 300 labels, including some notable rarities. Add to this friendly, attentive service and charming rustic yet refined interior design. Passing the modern open kitchen on your way into the restaurant only heightens the anticipation.
