Located in the town centre by the Pfarrbrücke, Gasthof Goldener Stern (est. 1791) is home to David and Anita Senfter's restaurant. Diners enjoy a cosy atmosphere in charming rustic rooms beneath vaulted ceilings, with traditional stoves providing warmth in winter. After stints in renowned kitchens (with Heinz Reitbauer, Silvio Nickol, Vitus Winkler and Andreas Döllerer), the chef-patron now cooks up modern cuisine using regional ingredients – cooked over an open fire. A highlight is the grill-braised beetroot, which is packed with flavour, has a gentle smoky note and is served with pleasingly tart currants and cream. The intense sauces and stocks – the chef's trademark – are outstanding. There is a four-, six-, or seven-course tasting menu, as well as an à la carte selection, complemented by Austrian wines.
