Three days to explore the Alhambra, stroll through the Albaicín district, and get caught up in the rhythm of flamenco… At the foot of the Sierra Nevada, Granada awaits you for a unique weekend at the heart of Andalusia!

Day 1: From the Alhambra to the Río Darro, a journey to the heart of the Moorish city

  • Morning
Any stay in Granada has to begin with a visit to the Alhambra, the jewel of Hispanic-Muslim architecture perched on the heights of the city. Founded in the 13thcentury under the Nasrid dynasty, this unique complex encompasses palaces, gardens and military remains. Start with the Nasrid palaces, an absolute masterpiece of Islamic art. You can admire the Palacio del Mexuar, whose sculpted wood ceilings and azulejos boast a rare finesse, and the Palacio de Comares: its Hall of Ambassadors features an impressive wooden dome made up of some 8,000 pieces arranged in the shape of stars! The showstopper is the Palacio de los Leones and its patio with 124 columns, taking you to the fountain with a dozen lions, a symbol of the power of the Nasrid sultans. You continue through the Generalife and its splendid terraced gardens; take the time to stroll through the Patio de la Acequia, where the pools lined with jets of water and cypress trees form an enchanting setting. Unforgettable!

Top tip

Remember to book your tickets for the Nasrid palaces well in advance even out of season, because the number of visitors per day is limited.

  • Lunch
A stone’s throw from the Alhambra, the restaurant Faralá welcomes you in a modern setting to enjoy flavorful Andalusian cuisine. At lunchtime, the chef concocts a seven-course menu marrying local produce and culinary creativity: a perfect introduction to the flavors of the region!
  • Afternoon
After lunch, you join the Carrera del Darro, one of Granada’s most charming streets, which alternates stone bridges and historic buildings. Set on the right bank of the Río Darro, it connects Plaza de Santa Ana to the Paseo de los Tristes. Stroll between the Baroque and classical façades, admire the Renaissance Palacio de los Córdova and make a stop at the ancient Arab baths, superbly preserved since the 11th
  • Evening
Finish the day in the Realejo district, the former Jewish quarter easily accessible from the Plaza de Santa Ana. On Calle Pavaneras, cast your gaze at the fortified façade of the Casa de los Tiros Museum: it is a fascinating sight decorated with sculptures depicting warriors! Then, it’s time to soak up the friendly atmosphere of the tapas bars surrounding Plaza Campo del Príncipe. Order a glass and let the local specialties come to your table: you receive complimentary tapas with every drink here.

Day 2: The historic center of Granada: age-old heritage and Andalusian charm

  • Morning
You begin your exploration of the Centro with Granada Cathedral, a Renaissance gem started in 1518 on the remains of the old medina. Illustrating the evolution from Gothic to Renaissance style, its interior reveals richly decorated chapels, airy vaults, and two stunning twin organs from the 18th A stone’s throw away, the royal chapel houses the mausoleums of the Catholic monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella. Further to the north, you continue toward the Monastery of San Jerónimo, whose elegant façade bears witness to Granada’s artistic rise in the 16thcentury. Return toward the cathedral and wander through the Alcaicería, whose craft boutiques and narrow streets are reminiscent of the traditional markets of the Nasrid period: it is the ideal place to unearth small marquetry items and colorful cushions.
  • Lunch
At lunchtime, head to Plaza Bib-Rambla and pull up a seat in a traditional taberna. Passed down from generation to generation, Andalusian specialties such as pescaito frito, Granada-style chicken and salmorejo are a feast for the taste buds.
  • Afternoon
Make your way to the Albaicín, the former Arab quarter listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its narrow streets, lined with whitewashed houses, climb up to the Mirador de San Nicolás: from there, you can enjoy an unbeatable view over the Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada. Continue toward the Sacromonte, a cave-dwelling hillside neighborhood, famous for its casas-cuevas — caves to which walls and a façade have been added. From here, the Generalife lies before you!
  • Evening
The time has come to immerse yourself in the soul and culture of Granada with a performance of zambra, a flamenco dance that originated here in the Sacromonte district in the 16th century. Step inside the Zambra María La Canastera, a small stage set up in a cave, where you can experience the raw emotion of this age-old art.

Day 3: Science, art, and Baroque panoramas to bring your stay to a beautiful close

  • Morning
You have two options to start the day. If you are interested in science, pay a visit to the Science Park, a fascinating interactive museum with fun exhibitions, a planetarium, and a tropical butterfly greenhouse. Otherwise, you can choose to go for a stroll through Federico García Lorca Park: this pleasant and relatively quiet green space is home to Huerta de San Vicente, the summer residence of the famous poet (1898-1936), which has remained the same as when he holidayed there.
  • Lunch
Follow the example of the locals and take a lunch break in the residential neighborhood of Zaidín. The perfect spot to enjoy simple cuisine on a sunny terrace, far from the tourist hubbub. A memory that you’ll never forget!
  • Afternoon
You then reach the Granada Charterhouse (Monasterio de la Cartuja), a Baroque masterpiece perched on a hill to the north of Granada. Behind its discreet façade lies an incredibly rich interior: gilt ceilings, glowing frescos, and elaborate marble will leave you speechless. You can’t help but admire the Capilla del Sagrario, an incredibly exuberant chapel, and the sacristy, overflowing with stuccos, moldings, and broken cornices.
🚗
Getting there easily

From Zaidín, the U3 bus takes you directly to the foot of the Charterhouse. By car, you can easily reach it via Calle Eudoxia Piriz, and parking is available near the monastery. This makes for a smoother journey than leaving from the Albaicín, where traffic is restricted.

  • Evening
To bring your weekend to a close, return to the Darro neighborhood and treat yourself to a moment of relaxation at the Hammam Al Ándalus. On the program: hot baths and relaxing massages in a typically Andalusian setting, featuring walls sculpted with azulejos and colorful mosaics.

Staying an extra day?

Enjoy a getaway to the white villages of the Alpujarra region, an hour away from Granada. Nestled at the heart of the Sierra Nevada, these hamlets, such as Pampaneira and Capileira, offer a charming picture with their whitewashed houses and narrow cobblestone hillside streets. You’ll love them!
