VinFast: The Vietnamese carmaker that’s going international

Vietnamese carmaker VinFast is coming to Europe this year with two large, high-end electric family SUVs. The automaker burst onto the scene at the 2018 Paris Motor Show before launching its first models in Vietnam the following year. Now, 2022 marks a new stage in its development, with international expansion.

This rising brand has major ambitions. It also has sound foundations, since it is a subsidiary of Vingroup, one of Vietnam’s largest conglomerates, present in the real estate sector as well as in education, health and agriculture.

VinFast burst onto the scene in 2018 at the Paris Motor Show, to much fanfare and with a certain David Beckham as its ambassador at the time. A few months later, VinFast officially launched its business, in Vietnam, with three initial cars in its catalog (a city car, a sedan and an SUV), as well as a range of electric scooters. In 2021, the brand expanded its offer by launching two new electric scooters and even a bus, again 100% electric. In the same year, VinFast presented three new electric cars, two of which are intended for the international market.

In 2022, the manufacturer will branch out to new markets, with the opening of showrooms in the United States and Canada, but also in Europe, in France, Germany and the Netherlands. The first two models available in Europe are the VF 8 and VF 9, two large SUVs with five and seven seats. As for all its cars, the design of these models was entrusted to the Pininfarina studio. In France, the VinFast VF 8 and VF 9 will be priced from €43,050 and €58,700 respectively, with an additional battery rental package of €120 and €150 per month.
