Norway tops the list of European countries most prepared for the EV transition

There's still some disparity in Europe regarding different countries' progression in the switch to electric cars. Norway appears to be the best prepared country to achieve the EV transition very soon, while others -- such as the Czech Republic and Poland -- still have much work to do, according to research published by the full service leasing specialist LeasePlan.

LeasePlan’s 2022 EV Readiness Index shows that Norway is currently the European country most prepared for the transition to electric vehicles.

Sales of electric vehicles are growing steadily everywhere, with new models in all market segments, from small city cars to larger sporty models, sedans and SUVs. Norway is expected to become the first country in the world to achieve 100% electric vehicle sales this year. Norway and the United Kingdom are also the countries that most encourage the transition to electric vehicles, thanks to a range of subsidies and tax incentives.

On the other hand, most countries, with the notable exception of the Netherlands, currently lack the available charging infrastructure to meet the needs of this new fleet.

Czech Republic and Poland come bottom of the table with a score of 13/50.

Top 10 European countries most prepared for the electric vehicle transition:
1. Norway (42/50)
2. Netherlands (37)
3. United Kingdom (35)
3. Austria (35)
5. Sweden (34)
6. Belgium (31)
7. Finland (30)
8. Germany (29)
8. Luxembourg (29)
10. Ireland (28)

The index score (out of 50) calculated by LeasePlan is based on three factors: electric car registrations, the maturity of vehicle charging infrastructure, and government incentives in each country studied.
